이세 신궁

이세 신궁은 태양을 상징하는 여신인 "아마테라스 오오미카미"를 모시고 있으며, 연간 600만명이 넘는 참배객들로 붐비고 있다. 기원전 2년에 "나이쿠(내궁)"를 열었다고도 전해지며, 특별한 신사이기에 처음엔 서민의 참배가 인정되지 않았었지만, 12세기 이후 서민의 참배가 허락되어, "몬젠마치(신사나 절 앞에 발발한 도시)"가 발달해 왔다. 매년 정해진 날에 행해지는 항례제와 20년마다 사전을 다시 지어 구전의 신의를 신전으로 옮기는 의식행사인 식년천궁에 따른 천궁제 등, 많은 제례가 예로부터 전해져 내려오고 있다.

Ise Grand Shrine

The Ise Grand Shrine, located in the city of Ise, Mie Prefecture of Japan, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Officially known simply as Jingū, Ise Jingū is a shrine complex composed of a large number of Shinto shrines centered on two main shrines, Naikū and Gekū.
