안네 프랑크 (1929-1945)

아넬리스 "아네" 마리 프랑크는 독일의 유대인 소녀로 나치가 네덜란드를 지배한 시기에 쓴 일기로 유명하다. 그 일기는 한국어로는 '안네의 일기'라는 제목으로 출판됐다. 안네는 16세의 나이로 1945년 3월에 유대인 강제수용소 베르겐 벨젠(Bergen-Belsen)에서 영양실조와 장티푸스로 사망했다. 전쟁이 끝나기 2달 전이었다. 어머니는 정신이상으로 죽었다. 언니 마르고트도 장티푸스로 죽었는데, 그녀가 사망한 후 안네가 상심이 커서 사망한 것으로 알려져 있다.

Anne Frank (1929-1945)

Annelies Marie Frank was a German-born diarist. One of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust, she gained fame posthumously with the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl, in which she documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.

베르겐벨젠 강제 수용소

베르겐 벨젠 또는 벨젠은 1943년 독일 나치스가 전쟁 포로와 유대인을 수용하기 위하여 설치한 수용 인원 4만 1000명 규모의 수용소로서, 이곳에서 3만 7000명에 이르는 수용자들이 굶주림과 중노동, 질병 등으로 죽어갔다. 그중에는 《안네의 일기》로 유명한 안네 프랑크도 있다.

Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp

Bergen-Belsen or Belsen, was a Nazi concentration camp in what is today Lower Saxony in northern Germany, southwest of the town of Bergen near Celle. Originally established as a prisoner of war camp, in 1943, parts of it became a concentration camp. Initially this was an "exchange camp", where Jewish hostages were held with the intention of exchanging them for German prisoners of war held overseas.
