헤론 섬

헤론 섬은 글래드 스톤에서 동쪽으로 약 72km정도 떨어진 곳에 위치한 섬으로, 섬 전체를 돌아보는 데 걸어서 30분정도 밖에 걸리지 않는 작은 섬이다. 섬 전체가 국립공원으로 지정 되어있어 철저하게 자연보호를 하고 있다. 그래서 이 섬에 머물 수 있는 곳은 섬의 서쪽 끝으로 제한되어 있으나, 아직도 다이버들의 메카라고 불리울 정도로 많은 다이버들이 매해 찾아오는 곳이다. 거북이가 알을 낳는 장면을 볼 수 있고 바다거북 뿐만아니라 희귀한 야생조류를 볼 수 있는 곳이기도 하다.

Heron Island is a coral cay located near the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern Great Barrier Reef, 80 kilometres (50 miles) north-east of Gladstone, Queensland, Australia, and 460 km (290 mi) north-north-west of the state capital Brisbane.

푸른바다거북

푸른바다거북 또는 바다거북은 바다거북과에 속하는 대형 거북이다. 바다거북속에 속하는 유일한 종이다. 이들은 전 세계의 열대와 아열대 해양에 분포하며, 대서양과 태평양의 개체군은 구분되어 있다. 녹색으로 보이는 이유는 등딱지의 밑에 있는 지방질 때문이다.

Green sea turtle

The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), also known as the green turtle, black (sea) turtle or Pacific green turtle, is a large sea turtle of the family Cheloniidae. It is the only species in the genus Chelonia. Its range extends throughout tropical and subtropical seas around the world, with two distinct populations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but it is also found in the Indian Ocean.
