밀레토스

밀레토스는 아나톨리아 서부 해안에 있던 고대 그리스 이오니아의 도시의 이름으로, 현재는 터키에 속하는 지역이다. 후기 청동기 시대인 미노아 문명과 미케네 문명시대에는 사람이 살던 것으로 보이며, 이 시대에는 히타이트와도 경쟁하였다. 이후 그리스 암흑기 시대에는 사람이 살지 않았다가 기원전 6세기 중반에 이오니아 인들이 건너가 도시를 세웠다.

Miletus

Miletus was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria. Its ruins are located near the modern village of Balat in Aydın Province, Turkey. Before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC, Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities.

밀레투스 시장의 문

밀레투스 시장의 문은 기원전 2세기에 고대 도시 밀레토스에 지어진 건축물로서 10세기와 11세기에 지진으로 붕괴된 것을 1900년대에 유적지 현지에서 출토된 그대로 옮겨져, 실제 크기로 재건되어 페르가몬 박물관에 전시되어 있다. 폭 30m, 높이 16m 정도의 크기이다.

Market Gate of Miletus

The Market Gate of Miletus is a large marble monument in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Germany. It was built in Miletus in the 2nd century AD and destroyed in an earthquake in the 10th or 11th century. In the early 1900s, it was excavated by a German archeological team, rebuilt, and placed on display in the museum in Berlin.
