변경주

변경주는 변경주속(Carnegiea)에 딸린 선인장 종이다. 마치 나무와 같은 모양으로 가지를 치며, 20 미터 이상 높이로 자란다. 미국의 에리조나.주, 멕시코의 소노라 주 등지에 서식한다. 사구아로(saguaro)라고도 하는데, 이것은 마요족 인디언들의 언어가 에스파냐어를 거쳐 영어로 전래된 것이다.

Saguaro

The saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) is an arborescent (tree-like) cactus species in the monotypic genus Carnegiea, which can grow to be over 40 feet (12 m) tall. It is native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, the Mexican State of Sonora, and the Whipple Mountains and Imperial County areas of California.
