국기하강식

국기하강식은 매일 저녁 인도와 파키스탄 접경지인 '와가 보더'에서 벌어지는 인도 국경수비대와 파키스탄 경비대 사이의 합동 국기 하강식을 말한다. 1959년부터 시작되었고, 매일 일몰 시 개최되고 있다. 양국 국민들은 퍼포먼스를 구경하기 위해 매일 일몰 시 이곳으로 몰려 들며, 해외 관광객들도 많이 찾는다.

Wagah-Attari border ceremony

The lowering of the flags ceremony at the Wagah border is a daily military practice that the security forces of India (Border Security Force, BSF) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) have jointly followed since 1959. The drill is characterized by elaborate and rapid dancelike manoeuvres and raising legs as high as possible, which have been described as "colourful". It is alternatively a symbol of the two countries’ rivalry, as well as brotherhood and cooperation between the two nations.
