Santa Lucia Christmas Markets (Fira de Santa Llúcia)

The Fira de Santa Llúcia has been going since 1786 so it is not only Barcelona's best known Christmas market but also its oldest. The Christmas fair, known as a Fira de Nadal in Catalan fills Avinguda de la Catedral just in front of Barcelona Cathedral from the end of November or the beginning of December until just before Christmas every year. This year is no exception and more than 280 stalls selling Christmas wares will be open to the public on Friday 25th November to Friday 23rd December.

Caga Tio

The Caga Tió is basically a small or big (depending on the occasion) wooden log that wears a Christmas red hat and a smiley face. Kids usually get it around early December. Their task is to take care of it until the log “poos” them presents (weird right?). On Christmas Eve, Caga Tió will get covered with a blanket and kids must sing a song while they bang the log. After the song, kids will find sweets and little toys underneath the blanket.
