백마사

불교가 중국에 들어온 후 만들어진 첫 번째 사원이다. 기원 68년에 건조, 현존사원은 명ㆍ청 시기에 재건된 것으로 전당이 100여 칸이나 된다. 낙양시의 동북쪽 12㎞ 떨어져 있는 한위의 낙양성 내에 있다. 백마사가 창건된 것은 후한시대로 불교 전래 후의 중국 최초의 사원이다. 절의 이름은 천황이 인도에 파견한 일행이 백마(白馬)에 경전을 싣고 돌아온 것에서 유래되었다고 한다. 절 입구 양쪽에는 송나라 때 만들어진 두 마리의 백마상이 서 있다. 입구 정면에는 왕주전이 있고, 그 뒤로 대불전, 대웅전 등의 건축물이 늘어서 있다. 대불전에는 무게 1.25t의 대철종이 있고, 대웅전에는 원대에 조각된 십팔나한상이 안치되어 있다. 절의 동쪽에는 13층 정도 되는 약 24m의 제운탑이 있다. 금)나라 1175년에 세워진 석탑으로 탑의 앞에서 손뼉을 치면 개구리 울음소리를 닮은 메아리가 되돌아온다고 한다.

White Horse Temple

White Horse Temple is Buddhist temple in Luoyang, China that, according to tradition, is the first Buddhist temple in China, having been first established in 68 AD under the patronage of Emperor Ming in the Eastern Han dynasty. The site is just outside the walls of the ancient Eastern Han capital, some 12–13 km east of Luoyang in Henan Province. It is approximately 40 minutes by bus No. 56 from Luoyang railway station. The temple, although small in comparison to many others in China, is considered by most believers as "the cradle of Chinese Buddhism". The geographical landmarks to the south are Manghan mountain and Lucoche River.
