우웨이시

여기의 레이타이 지구에는 뢰대한묘라고 하는 후한 때 장장군 일족의 묘가 있다. 이것은 고대 아래에 묘실이 있어, 그 중에는 많은 동으로 만든 동거마와 동분마도 출토되었다. 현재 뢰대(뇌대)에는 뇌신을 모시는 도관(도교의 사원)이 있다. 그 이외에도 원대의 티베트의 수령과 원나라 왕조 중앙의 회맹의 장소였던 백탑사가 있다. 풍부한 역사적 유산으로 1985년에는 중국역사문화명성으로 지정되어 있다.

Wuwei

Wuwei is a prefecture-level city in northwest central Gansu province. In the north it borders Inner Mongolia, in the southwest, Qinghai. It is centrally located in between three western capital cities, Lanzhou, Xining, and Yinchuan, making it an important business and transportation hub for the region. Because it is positioned along the Hexi Corridor, historically the only route from central China to western China and the rest of Central Asia, many major railroads and national highways pass through Wuwei, nowadays.

마타페이옌 (마답비연, 马踏飞燕)

흉노를 견제하고자 했던 한 무제의 명으로 서역으로 파견되었다가 흉노에 포로로 잡혀 탈출해 돌아온 장건의 보고에 의해, 당시 대완국이라 불리던 오늘날의 키르기스 지역에서 하루에 천 리(약 400km)를 달리는 한혈마라는 명마가 산출된다는 것이 알려졌으며, 한 무제는 이 한혈마를 얻기 위해 대완에 특사를 파견하지만, 한나라 사신의 오만한 태도에 대완은 제의를 거절하고 귀향하는 사신을 습격해 참살하고 앞서 대완마를 사기 위해 보냈던 보물도 빼앗아버렸다. 한 무제는 이에 기원전 104년 이사장군 이광리가 지휘하는 원정군을 보내 대완을 정벌하고 마침내 한혈마를 차지하였다. 무제는 한혈마를 얻은 후 감탄하여 「서극천마가」를 짓게 하였으며, 한혈마를 「천마」(天馬)라고 칭찬하였다. 지금의 중국 간쑤 성 우웨이 시의 뇌조묘 뢰대한묘에서 나온 청동으로 된 「마답비연상」은 이 한혈마를 모델로 제작된 것으로 알려져 있다.

Flying Horse of Gansu

The Flying Horse of Gansu, also known as the Bronze Running Horse or the Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow, is a Chinese bronze sculpture from circa the 2nd century CE. Discovered in 1969 near the city of Wuwei, in the province of Gansu, it is now in the Gansu Provincial Museum. "Perfectly balanced," says one authority, "on the one hoof which rests without pressure on a flying swallow, it is a remarkable example of three-dimensional form and of animal portraiture with the head vividly expressing mettlesome vigor."
