강감찬 (948-1031)

강감찬은 고려의 문관, 정치인, 장수이다. 고려시대의 명장으로 거란이 10만 대군을 이끌고 쳐들어왔을 때 서북면행영도통사로 상원수가 되어 흥화진에서 적을 무찔렀으며 달아나는 적을 귀주대첩에서 크게 격파하여 수많은 전설이 전해내려 오고 있다.

Gang Gam-chan (948-1031)

Gang Gam-chan was a medieval Korean government official and military commander during the early days of Goryeo Dynasty. Even though he was a career scholar and government official, he is best known for his military victories during the Third Goryeo-Khitan War.

귀주 대첩

귀주 대첩은 1019년 3월 10일 고려군이 요나라군을 귀주에서 물리쳐 승리한 전투이다. 고려측 20만 명 이상, 요측 10만 명 이상의 대병력이 평야 한복판에서 맞붙은 총력 대회전으로, 요는 거의 전멸하여 이후 다시는 고려를 공격하지 못한다.

Battle of Kuju

The Battle of Gwiju, which occurred in 1019, was the major battle during the Third Goryeo-Khitan War. After crossing the Aprok River, the Khitan troops invaded Korea. But the Korean general Gang Gam-chan dammed a stream and released it as the Khitan troops were crossing.
