Santuario Madonna delle Lacrime
Those who come to visit Siracusa cannot but being impressed by the cone-shaped monumental structure that dominates, from the above of its 74 meters, the city. The Sanctuary of Madonna delle Lacrime, a sign of profound piety and faith, was erected in memory of the miraculous event which saw in 1953, in a humble home in the nearby of Via degli Orti, the act of tearing on a plaster effigy of the Virgin Mary, placed at the bedside two spouses Syracuse. The miracle was repeated from 29 August to 1 September 1953, between disbelief and amazement before a few and then in the general commotion of an immense multitude of the faithful who saw human, fragile tears running down the cheeks of the sacred image, tears, collected and subjected to all kinds of analysis and medical and scientific investigations carried out by a medical board appointed by the Archbishop of Syracuse, were similar to those of humans.
