칸나에 전투 (B.C.216)

칸나이 전투는 제2차 포에니 전쟁 중인 기원전 216년에 이탈리아 중부 아프리아 지방의 칸나이 평원에서 로마 공화정 군과 카르타고군 사이에 벌어진 전투이다. 이 전투에서 한니발이 지휘하는 카르타고군은 완벽한 포위 작전으로 로마군을 전멸시켜 현대에도 포위섬멸전의 교본으로 남아 각국 사관학교에서 중요하게 다뤄지고 있다. 

Battle of Cannae (B.C.216)

The Battle of Cannae was a major battle of the Second Punic War that took place on 2 August 216 BC in Apulia, in southeast Italy. The army of Carthage, under Hannibal, surrounded and decisively defeated a larger army of the Roman Republic under the consuls Lucius Aemilius Paullus and Gaius Terentius Varro. It is regarded both as one of the greatest tactical feats in military history and as one of the worst defeats in Roman history.

한니발 (BC.247-183)

한니발은 고대 카르타고의 군사 지도자로, 대개 역사상 가장 위대한 군사령관들 중 하나로 평가된다. 군사사학자 시어도어 에이랄트 닷지는 한니발의 적이었던 로마마저 한니발을 무찌르기 위해 한니발의 전술과 전략을 활용할 수밖에 없었다는 점에서 한니발을 “전략의 아버지(father of strategy)”라고 불렀고, 이 별명은 두고두고 회자되고 있다.

Hannibal was a Carthaginian general, considered one of the greatest military commanders in history. His father Hamilcar Barca was the leading Carthaginian commander during the First Punic War. His younger brothers were Mago and Hasdrubal, and he was brother-in-law to Hasdrubal the Fair. he was regarded as a great strategist by Napoleon and others.
