빌라 아드리아나

빌라 아드리아나는 고대 지중해 세계의 수준 높은 유형문화를 독특한 방식으로 표현한 걸작이다. 이 기념물에 관한 연구는 르네상스 시대와 바로크 시대 건축가들이 이용한 고전주의 건축의 요소들을 재발견하는 데 많은 도움을 주었으며 19, 20세기 건축가와 설계가들에게 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 빌라 아드리아나는 원래 로마 공화정 말기에 지어진 별장으로 로마 황제 하드리아누스(Hadrianus)의 아내였던 비비아 사비나(Vibia Sabina)의 소유였다. 그 후 118년~125년과 125년~138년의 두 단계에 걸쳐 별장이 있던 자리에 황제의 처소가 지어졌다. 이 처소는 점점 절대화하는 황제의 권력의 상징이었으며, 황제 권력이 수도(로마)에서 멀리 떨어진 곳까지 영향력을 펼쳤다는 증거이다. 이런 이유로 이곳은 루이 14세의 베르사유 궁전에 비교된다.

Villa Adriana

The Glenfiddich Distillery was founded in 1886 by William Grant in Dufftown, Scotland, in the glen of the River Fiddich. The Glenfiddich single malt whisky first ran from the stills on Christmas Day, 1887. In the 1920s, with prohibition in force in the US, Glenfiddich was one of a very small number of distilleries to increase production. This put them in a strong position to meet the sudden rise in demand for fine aged whiskies that came with the repeal of prohibition.
