호찌민 (1890-1969)
베트남의 초대 국가주석이자 혁명가, 독립운동가. 현대 베트남의 국부다. 베트민을 조직하여 프랑스와 일본에 의해 지배 받던 식민지 베트남의 독립을 이루었으며, 이후 베트남 전쟁을 통해 분단 베트남의 통일에 큰 역할을 하였다. 20대 초반부터 노년 시절까지 반평생을 반(反)식민지 해방 투쟁을 전개하며 살았던 인물이다. 반면 보트피플로 탈출한 베트남계 미국인들이나 비슷한 반공주의자들에게는 "베트남 공산당이 벌인 반대파 탄압, 민간인 학살을 주도했다."는 평가도 존재한다.

Hồ Chí Minh was a Vietnamese communist revolutionary, nationalist, and politician. He served as prime minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam from 1945 to 1955 and as president from 1945 until his death in 1969. Ideologically a Marxist–Leninist, he was the Chairman and First Secretary of the Workers' Party of Vietnam, the predecessor of the current Communist Party of Vietnam.
