시카고 워터 타워

시카고 워터 타워는 미국 일리노이 주 시카고에 있는 역사적인 건물이다. 켄터키 주 루이빌에 있는 루이빌 워터 타워에 이어 미국에서 2번째로 오래된 급수탑이다. 건물의 일부는 갤러리로 City Gallery in the Historic Water Tower라는 이름으로 운영되고 있다. 1871년 시카고 대화재 이후 유명해진 건물로, 시카고 대화재로 불타 남은 유일한 건축물로 오해받을 수 있지만, 워터 타워 이외에도 타지 않은 건물도 있어 정확하게는 시카고 대화재로 남은 유일한 공공 건축물이다.

Chicago Water Tower

The Chicago Water Tower is a contributing property and landmark in the Old Chicago Water Tower District. It is located at 806 North Michigan Avenue along the Magnificent Mile shopping district in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois in a small park, the Jane M. Byrne Plaza. The tower was constructed to house a large water pump, intended to draw water from Lake Michigan.

시카고 대화재(Great Chicago Fire)는 1871년 10월 8일 토요일부터 10월 10일 화요일까지 미국 일리노이 주 시카고에서 일어난 대화재이다. 이 화재로 300명 가까이 사망하고, 시카고의 9 km²에 달하는 지역이 불에 타고 10만명 이상이 집을 잃고 이재민이 되었다. 이 화재는 19세기 미국에서 일어난 화재 사건 중 가장 큰 규모였으며, 시카고 도심 지역이 완전히 파괴되었지만 화재 이후 재건을 통해 시카고는 미국에서 가장 큰 경제 중심지 중 하나로 성장하게 된다.

Great Chicago Fire

The Great Chicago Fire was a conflagration that burned from Sunday, October 8, to Tuesday, October 10, 1871. The fire killed up to 300 people, destroyed roughly 3.3 square miles (9 km2) of Chicago, Illinois, and left more than 100,000 residents homeless
