시몬 볼리바르 (1783-1830)

시몬 볼리바르는 베네수엘라의 독립운동가이자 군인이다. 호세 데 산 마르틴 등과 함께 라틴 아메리카의 해방자로 불린다. 스페인의 식민지였던 콜롬비아, 에콰도르, 파나마, 베네수엘라를 그란콜롬비아로 독립시켰다. "세상에는 가장 멍청한 바보가 셋 있다. 첫째는 예수, 둘째는 돈키호테, 그리고 나 볼리바르다."

Simon Bolivar (1783-1830)

Bolívar was born into a wealthy family and as was common for the heirs of upper-class families in his day, was sent to be educated abroad at a young age, arriving in Spain when he was 16 and later moving to France. While in Europe he was introduced to the ideas of the Enlightenment, which later motivated him to overthrow the reigning Spanish in colonial South America. Taking advantage of the disorder in Spain prompted by the Peninsular War, Bolívar began his campaign for independence in 1808.
