Chartwell

Chartwell is a country house near Westerham, Kent, in South East England. For over forty years it was the home of Sir Winston Churchill. He bought the property in September 1922 and lived there until shortly before his death in January 1965. In the 1930s, when Churchill was out of political office, Chartwell became the centre of his world. At his dining table, he gathered those who could assist his campaign against German re-armament and the British government's response of appeasement; in his study, he composed speeches and wrote books; in his garden, he built walls, constructed lakes and painted.

윈스턴 레오너드 스펜서처칠 경은 영국의 총리를 지낸 정치가이다. 처칠은 한때 나치 독일이 영국을 공습할 것을 염려해 과거 공군을 강.화해야 한다는 의견을 냈던 일이 있었는데 당시 정계에서 무시되었다. 하지만 나치 독일이 진짜 영국을 공격하여 처칠의 견해가 맞다는 것이 입증되자 영국 정부는 처칠을 다시 해군장관에 임명하였다. 이후 네빌 체임벌린이 외교문제에 책임을 지고 사임하고, 조지 6세의 승인으로 처칠이 총리에 임명됐다. 이 후 처칠은 영국 본토 항공전을 막아내고 연합국의 승리를 가져왔다.

Winston Churchill
