양재 시민의숲

시민의숲은 우리나라 최초로 숲 개념을 도입한 공원으로 도심에서 보기 힘든 울창한 수림대를 품고 있어 시민들에게 훌륭한 녹색 휴식 공간을 제공하고 있다. 공원은 86아시안 게임과 88올림픽을 앞두고 당시 서울의 관문이었던 양재 톨게이트 주변 환경을 개선하기 위한 공원조성계획의 일환으로 1983년 착공에 들어가 1986년 11월 개장했다. 매헌로를 기준으로 시민들이 주로 이용하는 북측 구역과, 다양한 위령탑 등이 들어서 있는 남측 구역으로 나뉘는데 북측 구역은 입구에 매헌윤봉길의사기념관이 있으며 울창한 숲이 있어 공원을 산책하는 시민들에게 사랑받는 공간이다.

Citizens' Forest

With dense woods that are hard to find in the middle of the city, Yangjae Citizens’ Forest offers a great green space in which citizens can relax. The park was created as part of the park construction plan for the amelioration of the environment surrounding Yangjae Tollgate, the gateway to Seoul, with the Seoul Asian Games in 1986 and the Seoul Summer Olympic Games in 1988 just around the corner. The construction started in 1983 and was completed in November 1986. With Maeheon-ro as its border, the park is divided into the northern area, which is frequented by promenaders, and the southern area, where visitors can find various memorials. The northern area is loved by many citizens as it houses the Maehun Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall at the entrance and a thick forest.

대한항공 858편 폭파 사건

대한항공 858편 폭파 의혹 사건은 바그다드에서 출발해 서울로 향하던 대한항공 858편 여객기가 1987년 11월 29일 인도양 상공에서 폭파(실종)되어 탑승객과 승무원 115명이 모두 희생된 사건이다. 국가안전기획부는 이 사건을 북한의 공작원에 의한 폭파 테러사건으로 공식 조사결과를 발표했으나 사건의 의혹은 명쾌히 해결되지 않고 있다.

Korean Air Flight 858

Korean Air Flight 858 was a scheduled international passenger flight between Baghdad, Iraq and Seoul, South Korea. On 29 November 1987, the aircraft flying that route exploded in mid-air upon the detonation of a bomb planted inside an overhead storage bin in the airplane's passenger cabin by two North Korean agents.

삼풍백화점 붕괴 사고

삼풍백화점 붕괴사고는 1995년 6월 29일 서초동에 있던 삼풍백화점이 붕괴한 사건으로, 건물이 무너지면서 1,445명의 종업원과 고객들이 다치거나 죽었으며, 파편이 튀어 주변을 지나던 행인 중에 부상자가 속출해 수많은 재산상, 인명상 손해를 끼쳤다. 사망자는 502명, 부상자는 937명이며 6명은 실종되었다.
