칼리

칼리는 검푸른 피부를 지닌 파괴의 여신으로, 시바의 아내인 파르바티의 여러 화신 가운데 한 명이다. 칼리 남편인 시바는 영원한 시간 또는 영원한 존재라는 뜻에서 칼라(Kāla)라고도 불리는데 이러한 시바의 배우자 여신이라는 측면에서 칼리는 "시간"과 시간이 흐르면서 일어나는 "변화"와 시간이 다 흐르고 나면 반드시 오게 되는 "죽음"을 상징하는 시간과 변화와 죽음의 여신으로 여기게 되었다.

Kali

Kali is a major goddess in Hinduism, associated with time, death, violence, sexuality, female empowerment, and motherly love. Kali is the first of the ten Mahavidyas in the Hindu tantric tradition. Kali's earliest appearance is when she emerged from Durga. The goddess is stated to destroy evil in order to defend the innocent. Over time, Kali has been worshipped by devotional movements and Tàntric sects variously as the Divine Mother, Mother of the Universe, Principal energy.
