크레이들 산

크레이들산은 태즈메이니아섬 북서부에 위치한 산으로, 태즈메이니아를 대표하는 자연경관이다. 해발 1,545m의 산봉우리와 주변의 험준한 산악지형, 빙하호수와 원시림이 어우러져 매우 독특한 풍경을 만들어낸다. 가장 유명한 모습은 산 아래 펼쳐진 도브호와 함께 바라보는 풍경이다. 호수 뒤편으로 뾰족한 크레이들산이 솟아 있고 주변에는 침엽수와 고산식물이 펼쳐져 있어 태즈메이니아를 대표하는 사진 명소로 꼽힌다. 이 지역은 빙하 작용으로 형성된 계곡과 호수, 고산지대, 원시림 등이 잘 보존되어 있어 자연환경의 가치가 매우 높으며 장거리 트레킹 코스인 오버랜드 트랙의 출발점이다. 약 65km에 이르는 트레킹 코스를 따라 산악지대와 호수, 폭포, 원시림 등을 지나며 태즈메이니아의 야생 자연을 경험할 수 있다. 크레이들산이 포함된 태즈메이니아 야생지대는 자연적·문화적 가치를 인정받아 1982년 유네스코 세계유산에 등재되었으며, 이후 범위가 확대되어 현재는 세계복합유산으로 지정되어 있다.

Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain is a mountain in the Central Highlands region of the Australian state of Tasmania. The mountain is situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. At 1,545 m above sea level, it is the sixth-highest mountain in Tasmania. Cradle Mountain sits between the Big River and Northern Tasmanian Aboriginal nations. Aboriginal Tasmanians were persecuted by the European settlers upon their arrival, and the last free Aboriginals in the area were seen just south of Cradle Mountain in 1836.
