바르트부르크 성

숲의 환경과 완벽하게 조화를 이루고 있는 바르트부르크 성(Wartburg Castle)은 다양한 관점에서 ‘이상적인 성’이다. 봉건 시대부터 건축되었던 성으로 부분적으로는 봉건시대 모습을 가지고 있으나 19세기에 대대적으로 복원되었다. 이 성은 봉건시대 봉건 지주의 군사력과 권력이 한창 절정이었을 당시의 모습을 짐작하게 한다. 마르틴 루터(Martin Luther)는 바르트부르크성으로 추방되었을 때 『신약성서』를 독일어로 번역하였다.

Wartburg Castle

Wartburg Castle blends superbly into its forest surroundings and is in many ways 'the ideal castle'. Although it has retained some original sections from the feudal period, the form it acquired during the 19th-century reconstitution gives a good idea of what this fortress might have been at the height of its military and seigneurial power.

1의 시인을 소재로 바그너가 작곡한 3막 오페라이다. 음유시인과 지주, 양치기 등이 뒤얽혀서 만들어내는 이야기를 담고 있다. 바그너의 다른 작품과 마찬가지로 음악 뿐만 아니라 대본도 바그너 본인 스스로가 직접 썼다. 로엔그린과 함께 바그너 초기의 대표작으로 꼽힌다. 이 작품의 성공으로 바그너는 작곡가로서의 입지를 탄탄히 하게 되었다.
