로트네스트 섬

로트네스트 섬은 퍼스에서 페리로 1시간 거리의 섬으로 , 서호주 사람들의 주말 여행지로 인기가 높은 곳이며, 스노클링, 낚시 ,수영, 카누타기 등 다양한 레저 활동을 할 수 있고 에메랄드빛 인도양의 멋진 풍경을 감상 할 수 있다. 또한, 로트네스트 섬에서만 사는 쿼카를 볼 수 있다.

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island (known as Wadjemup to the local Noongar people, and otherwise colloquially known as Rotto) is an island off the coast of Western Australia, located 18 kilometres (11 mi) west of Fremantle. A sandy, low-lying island formed on a base of aeolianite limestone, Rottnest is an A-class reserve, the highest level of protection afforded to public land.

쿼카

쿼카 또는 쿠아카왈라비(Quokka)는 캥거루과의 소형동물이다. 지구상에서 오스트레일리아 웨스턴오스트레일리아 주 로트네스트 섬에서만 사는 동물이다. 항상 웃는 얼굴을 하고 있는 동물이기에, '세상에서 가장 행복한 동물'이라는 별명이 있다. 캥거루과 동물답게 배주머니가 있고, 새끼를 배주머니에서 키우고 함께 이동한다. 캥거루와 마찬가지로 초식성이자 야행성이다.

Quokka

The quokka, the only member of the genus Setonix, is a small macropod about the size of a domestic cat. Like other marsupials in the macropod family (such as kangaroos and wallabies), the quokka is herbivorous and mainly nocturnal. Quokkas are found on some smaller islands off the coast of Western Australia, particularly Rottnest Island, just off Perth, and also Bald Island near Albany, and in isolated scattered populations in forest and coastal heath between Perth and Albany.
