그린 게이블스 유적지

그린 게이블스 유적지는 프린스에드워드아일랜드의 캐번디시에 있는 캐나다 국립사적지로 캐나다의 대표적인 소설 《빨간 머리 앤》의 배경이다. 《빨간 머리 앤》은 캐나다 작가 루시 모드 몽고메리가 1908년에 발표한 소설로 작품 속 주인공 앤 셜리(Anne Shirley)가 초록색 지붕의 집인 그린 게이블스에서 살아가는 이야기를 중심으로 전개되는데, 작가가 어린 시절부터 익숙했던 프린스에드워드아일랜드의 풍경과 캐번디시 주변의 실제 장소들이 작품의 배경과 영감이 되었다. 그린 게이블스 유적지에는 소설 속 그린 게이블스를 연상시키는 19세기 농가 주택이 보존되어 있으며, 주변에는 소설에 등장하는 러버스 레인(Lovers' Lane)과 숲속 산책로 등이 조성되어 있다. 특히 집 주변의 초록빛 들판과 숲, 붉은 흙길이 어우러진 풍경은 《빨간 머리 앤》의 분위기를 그대로 느낄 수 있다.

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables is a 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery (published as L. M. Montgomery). Written for all ages, it has been considered a classic children's novel since the mid-twentieth century. Set in the late 19th century, the novel recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl, who was mistakenly sent to two middle-aged siblings; Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, originally intending to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island.
