성베드로 동굴교회

성베드로 동굴교회는 안타키아에서 북쪽으로 2km 정도 떨어진 하비브 낫자르 산 속에 위치해 있다. '성서' 중 '사도행전'에 의하면 성 바르나바스가 사도 바울을 안타키아로 초청해 바위산을 깎아서 교회를 만든 것이라고 한다. 성베드로 동굴교회는 세계 최초의 그리스도교 교회인 만큼 언제나 순례객들의 발길이 많은 편인데, 특히 성 베드로 축일인 6월 29일에는 성 베드로와 사도 바울을 기념하는 축하 예배가 있기 때문에 매년 순례객들이 많이 모여든다.

Church of Saint Peter

The oldest surviving parts of the church building date from at least the 4th or 5th century; these include some pieces of floor mosaics, and traces of frescoes on the right side of the altar. The tunnel inside which opens to the mountainside is thought to have served the Christians for evacuation of the church in case of sudden raids and attacks.
