차낙칼레 순교자 기념비는 1915년 4월부터 1915년 12월 사이에 벌어진 갈리폴리 전투에서 참전한 약 253,000명의 터키 군인들을 기리는 순교자 기념비이다.

갈리폴리 전투 (1915-1916)

갈리폴리 전투는 제1차 세계대전 때 영국, 프랑스 연합군이 오스만 제국 다르다넬스 해협의 겔리볼루 반도(갈리폴리 반도)에서 벌인 일련의 상륙 전투이다. 연합군은 1915년 2월 19일과 2월 25일, 3월 25일에 각각 다르다넬스 해협의 터키군 포대를 포격했으나 터키군의 반격과 기뢰 등으로 인해 3척의 함대가 격침되고, 3척이 대파되었다.

Gallipoli Campaign (1915-1916)

The Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Dardanelles Campaign, the Battle of Gallipoli, or the Battle of Çanakkale, was a campaign of the First World War that took place on the Gallipoli peninsula (Gelibolu in modern Turkey) in the Ottoman Empire between 17 February 1915 and 9 January 1916. The peninsula forms the northern bank of the Dardanelles, a strait that provided a sea route to the Russian Empire, one of the Allied powers during the war.
