파블로 피카소 (1881-1973)

피카소는 1881년 10월 25일 에스파냐의 항구 도시인 말라가에서 출생하였다. 부친 호세 루이스 블라스코는 화가로 관립 미술학교 교사였고 피카소는 모친 마리아의 성(姓)을 계승하였다. 14세에 집안은 바르셀로나로 옮겨 갔으며, 피카소는 부친이 교편을 잡고 있던 그 곳 미술학교에서 배웠다. 이 무렵에 이미 그는 수르바란과 벨라스케스의 사실에 눈을 떴고 미술전에서 상을 받을 만한 역량을 발휘하고 있었다고 한다. 이듬해인 15세 때 그는 마드리드에 나와서 산페르난도 왕립 아카데미에 입학하였다.

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)

Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is a large oil painting created in 1907 by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. The work, part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, portrays five nude female prostitutes from a brothel on Avignon Street in Barcelona.

Massacre in Korea is an expressionistic painting completed on January 18, 1951, by Pablo Picasso; it criticizes United States intervention in the Korean War. It may depict an event such as the No Gun Ri Massacre in July 1950 when an undetermined number of South Korean refugees were killed by U.S. forces, or the same year, the Sinchon Massacre, a mass killing carried out in the county of Sinchon, South Hwanghae Province, North Korea.
