호메로스는 고대 그리스 중 그리스 암흑기 말기에 활동했던 유랑시인이다. 현존하는 고대 그리스어로 쓰인 가장 오래된 서사시 《일리아스》와 《오디세이아》 및 그밖에 여러 시의 작가이며, 맹인 시인으로 알려졌다. 그의 정확한 생몰 년대는 미상이고, 실존하지 않는 인물이라는 주장도 있다.

Homer is the legendary author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epic poems that are the central works of ancient Greek literature. The Iliad is set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek kingdoms. It focuses on a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles lasting a few weeks during the last year of the war. The Odyssey focuses on the journey home of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the fall of Troy.
