세키 대장간 전승관

세키 대장간 전승관은 700년에 걸친 일본도 직인 기술을 오늘날에 전하는 시설. 자료, 영상물이 상시 전시되어 있고 고식 일본도 단련(제작)이 일반 공개되는 날도 있다. 매년 1월 2일에 열리는 우치조메시키(그 해 처음으로 제작하는 날에 진행하는 의식)에서는 흰옷 차림의 직인들이 망치로 다마하가네(쇠 덩어리)를 두드리며 불꽃 튀는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 또한 칼 회관에서는 식칼이나 가위 등을 중심으로 약 2500종류의 제품을 판매하고 있다.

Seki Traditional Swordsmith Museum

Along with Germany's　Solingen and England's Sheffield, Seki City is one of the most well-known and highly regarded blade-producing areas in the world. To this day, Japanese swords continue to be produced by swordsmiths in the traditional forging style that has been passed down for centuries. The Seki Traditional Swordsmith Museum shows off the history and tradition of blade-making that date back over 700 years. Documents and videos are always on display for visitors to see, and on certain designated days, a glimpse of traditional Japanese sword forging is shown to the public. Every January 2nd, for example, you can watch the Uchizome-shiki, a ceremony marking the first forging of the year, in which sword smiths dawn their traditional white attire and pound the raw steel with giant hammers, sending out flurries of sparks in the process. It is truly a powerful sight to behold! The swordsmithing demonstration is not held on a daily basis so please use caution when planning a visit.
