퉁완청 (통만성, 統萬城)

퉁완청은 산시성 징볜현에 남아 있는 고대 성곽 도시 유적이다. 5세기 초 흉노의 혁련발발(赫連勃勃)이 세운 대하(大夏) 왕국의 수도로, 중국 역사에서 흉노가 건설한 대표적인 도시 유적으로 알려져 있다. 특히 성벽을 흰색에 가까운 흙으로 축조해 '백성(白城)'이라는 별칭으로도 불렸으며, 오랜 세월 동안 사막화와 풍식의 영향을 받으면서도 거대한 성벽과 성곽의 흔적이 남아 있다.

Tongwancheng

Tongwancheng was the capital of the Xia kingdom, a kingdom founded by the Xiongnu in northern China during the Sixteen Kingdoms period in the early 5th century. The city is at the southern edge of the Maowusu Sands of the Ordos Desert, on what was formerly a strategic site in the centre of the Ordos Plateau. Tongwancheng, which means the "city ruling ten thousand", is the largest urban center of the Southern Xiongnu that has ever been found. The city's ruins are well preserved and located in Jingbian County, Shaanxi Province, near the border with Inner Mongolia. The city has been surveyed and some elements restored, but not yet fully excavated.
