김좌진 (1889-1930)

김좌진은 일제 강점기의 군인이자 독립운동가이었다. 대한제국 육군무관학교를 졸업했다. 청산리 전투를 승리로 이끈 지휘관이었으며, 김동삼, 오동진 등과 3대 맹장으로 불리기도 하였다. 1930년 공산주의자 박상실에 의해 피살되었다.

Kim Jwajin (1889-1930)

Kim was born to a wealthy family of the Andong Kim lineage in Hongseong County, Chungcheong province. His father was Kim Hyeong-gyu. When Kim was 18, he released 50 families of slaves when he publicly burned the slave registry and provided each family with enough land to live on. This was the first emancipation of slaves in modern Korea.

청산리 전투 (1920.10.21-26)

1920년 10월 김좌진, 나중소, 서일, 이범석 등이 지휘하는 북로군정서군, 홍범도가 지휘하는 대한독립군, 대한신민단 예하 신민단 독립군 등 주축으로 활약한 만주 독립군 연합 부대가 중화민국 길림성 화룡현 청산리 백운평·천수평·완루구 등지의 10여 차례에 간도에 출병한 일본 제국 육군과 전투를 벌인 총칭이다. 삼둔자 전투와 봉오동 전투에서 연패한 일본군은 중국의 영토를 불법으로 침략했다는 비난을 만회하고자 훈춘 사건을 날조하고, 이를 계기로 만주에 대규모 부대를 투입하게 된다. 1920년 10월 21일부터 10월 26일까지 길림성 화룡현 내의 여러 지역에서 교전하여 청산리 골짜기에서 일본군을 크게 대파하게 된다.

Cheongsanri Battle (1920.10.21-26)

The Battle of Qingshanli was fought over six days in October 1920 between the Imperial Japanese Army and Korean armed groups in a densely wooded region of eastern Manchuria called Qīngshānlǐ. It occurred during the campaign of the Japanese army in Jiandao, during the Japanese rule of Korea (1910–1945).
