알리기에리 단테 (1265-1321)

단테는 1265년 이탈리아의 중부의 피렌체에서 태어났다. 단테가 9살이 되었을 때 폴코 포르티나리 의 딸 동갑내기 베아트리체를 처음으로 멀리서 보고 애정을 느끼며, 이 진귀한 유년 시절의 경험은 단테의 인생 행로를 좌우하게 된다. 그러나 단테는 그가 12세인 1277년 젬마 도나티와 약혼을 하게 되며 1291년 결국 그녀와 결혼하게 된다. 베아트리체가 24세로 사망할 때까지 단테는 베아트리체에게 혼과 열을 쏟은 것으로 보인다. 이탈리아의 여러 곳을 돌아다니며 생활하였다. 여러 편의 시나 논문을 썼으나 가장 유명한 것은 '신곡'이라는 장시이다. 내용은 단테가 베르길리우스에 이끌리어 지옥에 가고, 지옥보다는 고통이 덜한 연옥을 지나, 끝으로 베아트리체에게 안내되어 천국에 간다는 기독교 사상에 기반한 이야기인데, 그 생생한 묘사가 근세 문학을 낳게 하였다.

His Divine Comedy, originally called Comedìa (modern Italian: Commedia) and later christened Divina by Giovanni Boccaccio, is widely considered the most important poem of the Middle Ages and the greatest literary work in the Italian language

Badia Fiorentina

The Badìa Fiorentina is an abbey and church now home to the Monastic Communities of Jerusalem situated on the Via del Proconsolo in the centre of Florence, Italy. Dante supposedly grew up across the street in what is now called the 'Casa di Dante', rebuilt in 1910 as a museum to Dante (though in reality unlikely to be his real home).
