Sant Bartomeu de Soller
The church of Sóller is one of the most spectacular church constructions in Mallorca, namely because of the many architectural styles of its exterior.
The first chapel of Sóller was built already in the first half of the 13th century after the Catalan conquest.
On the left side of the church (facing the front), on Carrer Joan Baptista Ensenyat, you will notice a thick fortified wall. This wall was built in the 16th century, as a direct consequence of the most brutal pirate attack in the history of Sóller in 1561.
The church construction as you see it today, was built between 1688 and 1733, and designed by Joan Rubió i Bellver, who had Antoni Gaudí as his master.
