샌디에이고동물원
발보아 파크 내에 위치한 이 동물원은 100년이 넘는 역사를 자랑하며, 전 세계 650여 종, 12,000마리가 넘는 동물이 거주하고 있다. 동물원 전체가 거대한 식물원이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 동물의 서식 환경을 그대로 재현하기 위해 수천 종의 희귀 식물을 함께 기르고 있어, 걷는 것만으로도 열대 우림이나 아프리카 사바나에 온 듯한 기분을 준다. 이 곳은 창살이 없는 전시 방식을 선도한 곳으로 유명하며 깊은 도랑이나 자연물로 경계를 만들어 동물들이 더 자유롭고 스트레스 없이 지낼 수 있도록 설계되었다.
