망우역사문화공원

서울시 중랑구와 경기도 구리시에 걸쳐진 망우산 기슭에는 일제의 탄압에 맞서 조국의 독립을 위해 일생을 헌신한 독립운동가들이 묻혔다. 수많은 독립 열사와 애국지사들이 잠든 곳, 망우리공원이다. 망우리공원은 전에 망우리공동묘지라 불리던 곳으로, 이 일대 83만 2800㎡ 부지에 조성된 묘지공원이다. 일제강점기인 1933년부터 서울시 공동묘지로 사용되었으며, 1973년에는 분묘가 가득 차서 묘지를 쓰는 것이 금지되었다. 이후 이장과 납골이 장려되면서 주민을 위한 자연 휴식 공간으로 꾸며졌다.

Manguri Cemetery Park

Manguri Park is a sprawling cemetery park located in Mangu-dong, Seoul. Because it is both a cemetery and park, there are many walking trails located throughout Manguri. 만해 한용운 (1879-1944)

한용운은 일제 강점기의 시인, 승려, 독립운동가이다. 본관은 청주. 호는 만해이다. 불교를 통한 언론, 교육 활동을 하였다. 종래의 무능한 불교를 개혁하고 불교의 현실참여를 주장하였으며, 그것에 대한 대안점으로 불교사회개혁론을 주장했다

Han Yongun (1879-1944)

Manhae was born in Yucheon in Chungcheongnam-do, Hongseong. During his childhood, he studied Chinese classics in Seodang, a popular elementary school during the Joseon Dynasty. Prior to being ordained, he was involved in resistance to Japanese influence in the country, which culminated in the Japanese occupation from 1905 to 1945.
