완산티 (만삼제, 万三蹄)

기발한 만삼족발 만삼제는 황제와 머리싸움을 해서 이긴 한 부자의 이야기가 깃든 명사음식이다. 명(明)왕조의 개국황제 주원장(朱元璋)은 황제로 즉위한 후 자신의 성씨인 붉을 주(朱)와 중국어 발음이 같은 돼지 저(猪)자의 사용을 전면 금지시켰다. 그와 동시에 주원장은 당시의 갑부였던 심만삼의 부를 욕심내서 그를 해하고자 하는 마음을 가지고 있었다. 그러던 어느날 주원장이 심만삼의 집으로 놀러갔고 심만삼은 족발요리로 황제를 대접했다.

Wansanti Pork

When touring Zhouzhuang, don’t miss the chance to taste one of its most highly reputed specialty dishes commonly known as "Wansanti," which is pig hock braised in soy sauce, a dish conceived of by Shen Wansan, a great businessman during the reign of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) and visit his former residence. Shen was said to do silk and tea businesses, principally exporting tea, silk, and china while importing jewels, ivory, and spices, to make his fortune.

심만삼 (沈萬三 1330-1379)

원나라 말기와 명나라 초기에 중국에서 최고로 유명한 대부호 집안이었던 심만삼 가문이 저우장(주장)을 건설하고 발전시켰다. 저우장의 명물 요리인 만삼제도 심만삼의 유명세를 이용한 요리들 중의 하나이다. 심만삼과 만삼제는 중국인들에게 '최고의 부'의 상징이다. 또한, 저우장에는 '십찰해' 라는 곳이 있는데, 심만삼이 천만냥의 은을 캐낸 곳이라고 한다.

Shen Wansan (1330-1379)

Shen used to be one of the richest men at the area of south of the Yangtze river by doing foreign commerce and he took the most advantage of the convenient waterway in Suzhou. After he became rich, he made Suzhou as the important place to do his business. Shen lived in the period of the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty. At the beginning of Ming Dynasty, the Hongwu Emperor chose Nanjing as the capital. Shen helped to build one third of the wall of the capital.
