페르디난드 마르코스 (1917-1989)

페르디난드 에마누엘 에드랄린 마르코스는 필리핀의 법률가이자 독립운동가, 정치가로, 필리핀의 제10대 대통령이자 11대 상원 의장, 3번째 총리였다. 1965년 대통령이 된 뒤 21년간 장기집권하면서 1972년 계엄령을 공포하여 정적과 언론인을 투옥하는 등 독재체제를 구축하였다. 통상 약칭인 페르디난드 마르코스로 부른다.

Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr. was a Filipino politician and kleptocrat who was the tenth President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. A leading member of the New Society Movement, he ruled as a dictator under martial law from 1972 until 1981. One of the most controversial leaders of the 20th century, Marcos' rule was infamous for its corruption, extravagance, and brutality. Marcos claimed an active part in World War II, including fighting alongside the Americans in the Bataan Death March and being the "most decorated war hero in the Philippines". A number of his claims were found to be false and United States Army documents described Marcos's wartime claims as "fraudulent" and "absurd."
