메흐메트 2세 (1432-1481)

메흐메트 2세는 오스만 제국의 제7대 술탄이며, 처음으로 카이사르와 칼리프의 칭호를 쓴 인물이다. 1444년부터 1446년까지 짧은 기간 통치하다가 퇴위되고 나중에 1451년부터 다시 즉위하여 1481년에 죽을 때까지 집권하였다. 그는 젊은 나이에 콘스탄티노폴리스를 함락하고 동로마 제국을 멸망시켰으며 오스만 제국의 판도를 대폭으로 넓혀‘정복자(Fatih)’란 별명으로 불렸다.

Mehmed the Conqueror (1432-1481)

Mehmed II was an Ottoman Sultan who ruled first for a short time from August 1444 to September 1446, and later from February 1451 to May 1481. At the age of 21, he conquered Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) and brought an end to the Byzantine Empire.

콘스탄티노폴리스의 함락 (1453)

Fall of Constantinople (1453)

The Fall of Constantinople was the capture of the capital of the Byzantine Empire by an invading Ottoman army on 29 May 1453. The attackers were commanded by the 21-year-old Sultan Mehmed II, who defeated an army commanded by Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos and took control of the imperial capital, ending a 53-day siege that began on 6 April 1453.
