동래성 전투

1592년 5월 25일(음력 4월 15일) 부산진 전투에 이어 일어난 임진왜란 두 번째 전투로 동래 부사 송상현이 2시간을 버티며 일본군을 끝까지 막아냈으나 결국 전사하고 동래성은 함락되었다. 이 전투에 패배로 대구.상주,김해,밀양,성주,충주까지 함락되고 만다. 전투에 앞서 고니시는 동래성 앞에 이런 내용이 담긴 나무편을 내보였다.

"무모한 전투는 피하라. 나는 협상을 위해 조선의 도성으로 가야 한다. 그대가 굳이 싸우겠다면 할 수 없지만, 싸우지 않으려면 길을 빌려달라.(戰則戰矣 不戰則假我道)"

이에 송상현은 다음과 같이 쓴 팻말을 밖으로 던졌다.

"싸우다 죽기는 쉬우나, 길을 빌려주기는 어렵다!(戰死易 假道難)"

Siege of Dongnae

The siege of Dongnae was a siege that occurred on May 25, 1592 during the 1592–1598 Japanese invasions of Korea. It resulted in the capture by Japanese forces of Dongnaeeupseong, a mountain fortress on the way to Hanseong

송상현 (1551-1592)

송상현은 조선 중기의 문신, 작가이며 임진왜란 때의 장수이다. 임진왜란 초기 동래성 전투에서 고니시 유키나가의 군과 교전하다가 패전 살해되었다. 왜적은 그를 포로로 사로잡아 항복을 강요하였으나 항복하지 않자 처참하게 살해하였다. 자는 덕구, 호는 천곡·한천이며 시호는 충렬이다.

Song Sanghyeon

Song Sang-hyeon was a civil minister, writer, and general during the Joseon dynasty. He was the prefect of Dongnae during the Siege of Dongnae, one of the first battles of the Imjin Waeran. He led troops against Japanese general Konishi Yukinaga and was defeated. When presented with demands of surrender, Song famously declined and was captured alive and subsequently killed.
