아칸호

특별 천연기념물인 "마리모"가 서식하고 있으며, 신비한 아름다움으로 눈길을 끄는 호수 "아칸 호"를 비롯하여, "아칸 호" 동쪽의 수려한 모습을 드러내는 "오아칸 산" 및 세계 제일의 투명도를 자랑하는 "마슈 호", 가문비나무, 분비나무 원생림 등 웅장한 경관과 함께 볼만한 곳이 많아, 일년 내내 찾는 사람들의 발길이 끊이지 않는다.

Lake Akan

Lake Akan (阿寒湖 Akan-ko) is a lake in Kushiro, Hokkaidō, Japan. It is located in Akan National Park and is a Ramsar Site. Volcanic activity formed the lake some 6,000 years ago, when a dam was formed. The lake used to have a clarity of 8–9 meters in the 1930s. Pollution from local hotspring resorts has decreased the transparency to 3–4 meters.

마리모

마리모는 공 모양의 집합체를 만드는 것으로 잘 알려져 있는 담수성 녹조류의 일종이다. 아칸 호의 마리모는 특히 아름다운 구상체를 만들며, 일본의 천연기념물로 지정되어 있다. 마리모는 공 모양의 집합체를 형성하지만 그 구상체 하나가 곧 마리모 한 개체인 것이 아니고, 그 구상체를 구성하는 가는 섬유(사상체)가 마리모의 개체 단위이다.
