원숭이 나라 (銚子渓お猿の国)

쇼도시마의 중앙부에 위치한 경승지, 초오시케이에 있는 "원숭이낙원".500마리를 넘는 야생 원숭이가 서식하는 자연동물공원 원내에는 원숭이 놀이터와 광장이 정비되어 제각기 지내는 원숭이의 모습을 가까이서 관찰할 수 있다. 인간이 우리에 들어가 원숭이에게 먹이를 주는 먹이주기체험도 가능. 출산 계절인 봄에 아기 원숭이를 보거나 여름에는 원숭이들이 물놀이를 하는 모습을 보거나 겨울은 추위를 막기 위해 모여 몸을 맞대거나 사시사철 원숭이의 생태를 접할 수 있는 것도 매력이다.

Monkey Park

Over the years, I have visited Shodo Island dozens of times and always make sure that I recommend my friends to visit this gem of the Seto Inland Sea. By far, my first and most emphatic recommendation is to visit ‘Saru no Kuni’ (lit. Monkey-land) in the mountains of Shodo Island. The full name of the open-air, fenceless zoo is Choshikei Shizen Doubutsuen o-Saru no Kuni, but that can be quite a long name to remember! Locals and domestic tourists usually refer to it, almost exclusively, as Saru-no-Kuni. On the internet, the English name is often written as Choshikei Monkey Park. Under any name, this makes a great place to visit for couples, families with children, photography enthusiasts, and animal lovers alike.
